PHOENIX, AZ — Arizona’s political landscape is changing.
As of December 1, the Secretary of State has officially approved the transition from the No Labels Party of Arizona to the Arizona Independent Party, marking a bold new chapter for voters and candidates seeking a home beyond the partisan divide.
Why It Matters
The Arizona Independent Party gives voters and candidates a meaningful third option — one that opens doors to participation without the steep barriers faced by unaffiliated independents.
Under Arizona law, independent statewide candidates in 2024 needed over 42,000 signatures just to appear on the general election ballot. Candidates under the newly recognized Arizona Independent Party will only need around 1,500 signatures to qualify for the 2026 primary which empowers more voices, more competition, and more choice.
This change “democratizes elections,” said former Phoenix Mayor Paul Johnson, who leads the party’s transformation. “We’re creating a space where candidates can run without being forced to extremes, and where voters can finally have a real say in who represents them.”
A Party for the Majority — Not the Extremes
The Arizona Independent Party won’t be defined by rigid partisanship but by shared principles that most Arizonans already believe in:
Balanced budgets and responsible government spending.
Investment in education that prioritizes classrooms over culture wars.
An all-of-the-above energy policy that includes oil, gas, nuclear, and renewables.
Support for law enforcement, the military, and civil rights.
Less regulation and lower costs for families and small businesses.
Faith in human potential, equality of opportunity, and civic responsibility.
While candidates won’t be required to support every issue listed, they’ll be asked to sign a pledge committing to open primaries and to work respectfully across party lines. It's a return to the spirit of cooperation that once defined American leadership.
Why Arizona Needs a Third Option
For decades, voters have been forced into a false choice between two entrenched parties that often prioritize loyalty over progress. The Arizona Independent Party believes that most Arizonans — the commonsense majority — are ready for a movement that values ideas over ideology.
We reject the politics of grievance and pessimism. We believe in America’s potential, in personal responsibility, and in the idea that our government should reflect the people — not the extremes.
